Pick a Number 1 or 2

Need to pick a number 1 or 2? Press the button and get one of them, 50/50. Your browser's secure random tool draws the result, so it is fair and nobody can steer it.

It is handy for games, tiebreaks, or any time two people each want something and only one can have it.

How to Use the 1 or 2 Picker

  1. Decide what 1 and what 2 mean. For example, 1 means you go first and 2 means your friend does.
  2. Press spin.
  3. Follow the number.

Pick a Number Between 1 and 2: Why People Use It

A choice between one and two shows up in more places than you would think.

  • Who goes first. Player one or player two.
  • Left or right. Which hand, which door, which road.
  • Guess the number games. One player thinks of 1 or 2 and the other guesses.
  • Magic tricks and pranks. "I'll guess your number" works when the odds are half and half.
  • Sorting two groups. Odd or even, team A or team B.
  • Classroom tasks. Give each student one of two jobs.

A wheel with only 1 and 2 is the plainest decision tool there is. For a question that needs a yes or no, use the yes or no wheel. For the feel of a real coin, use the coin flip.

One or Two: The Odds

QuestionAnswer
Chance of 150%
Chance of 250%
The same number twice in a row50%
Three picks in a row all the same25%

With only two numbers, repeats are certain. By the third pick, at least one number must repeat. That surprises people who expect the numbers to take turns. They do not. Runs of the same number are normal, and each pick is a new 50/50.

RNG 1-2 for Game Designers and Classrooms

"RNG 1-2" just means a random number generator with two outcomes. Designers use it for coin flip effects in board games. Teachers use it to split a class in two quickly.

For more than two groups, try the random number wheel or 1 to 4. To split into teams, use the random team generator.

How Fair Is It?

The pick is made before the wheel moves, with a secure random tool and no bias. Each spin is separate. If you spin ten times, you will not usually get exactly five of each. A split of six and four is normal. See How it works for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pick a number 1 or 2 for a game?

Yes. Press spin and use the result. Agree what each number means first.

Is it really 50/50?

Yes. The number is drawn with your browser's secure random tool. Each one has exactly a 1 in 2 chance.

What is the difference between this and a coin flip?

The odds are the same. This gives you numbers, which is handy when 1 and 2 mean something in your game.

Can I get the same number several times?

Yes. With two numbers, repeats are very common. Three in a row happens about a quarter of the time.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and you do not need an account.
