How to Use a Spin Wheel

Updated · by SpinWheelZen

Using the wheel takes about a minute. Type your entries, press spin and read the result. Open the home wheel in another tab and follow along.

The 5 Steps

1. Open the wheel. Go to the home page. The wheel loads with six sample names, so you can see how it works.

2. Add your entries. Type one entry per line in the list next to the wheel. Each line becomes one slice. Use names, numbers, tasks, foods or anything else. To give something better odds, enter it more than once.

3. Spin. Press the spin button, or click the wheel. It turns, slows down and lands on a slice.

4. Read the result. The winning entry shows on screen. You can spin again or change your list.

5. Adjust and repeat. Add, delete or reorder entries and spin again. Your list is saved on your device as you type.

How the Result Is Chosen

The winner is picked before the wheel moves. Your browser's secure random generator makes the pick, and the animation then lands on that result. The speed you see and the spot where it stops do not change the outcome. You can read more on how it works.

Tips for Better Spins

  • Keep entries short. Long text gets small on the wheel.
  • Watch for accidental duplicates. Two lines with the same name double that name's chances.
  • Reuse your list. It stays saved, so you can come back later.
  • Show it on a big screen. Share your screen so everyone sees the draw.
  • Decide the rules first. Say it out loud: one spin, no re-spins.

Give Every Entry One Turn

Want each name to come up once? Use elimination mode. The winner leaves the wheel after each spin. The steps are in the guide on elimination mode.

Add Many Names at Once

Paste a list from a spreadsheet instead of typing. The guide on importing names shows how.

If Something Does Not Work

The wheel does not spin. Refresh the page and check that your list has at least two entries.

Entries look tiny. Shorten them or use fewer slices.

Your list is missing. Your list is saved in this browser on this device. A different browser or a cleared browser will not have it.

No sound. Check your tab and device volume. The wheel also has a mute option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wheel fair?

Yes. Every entry has an equal chance unless you add one more than once. A secure random number picks the result before the wheel animates.

How many entries can I add?

Up to 10,000. For a wheel people can read, a smaller list works better.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the page and start.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, with touch.

Can the same name win twice in a row?

Yes. Each spin is independent. To avoid repeats, use elimination mode.
